Jumpstart your SEO + new Squarespace features

Published 4 months ago • 2 min read

Hi Reader,

There are a some new exciting features available in your Squarespace site! You can scroll down to see which ones apply to you. FYI, they also re-arranged the "settings" panel again. Remember, you can always click the "/" (back slash) key to easily search any setting on your website.

I started the year off strong with the 5-Days to Ranking on Google challenge with Tonya Lawson. If you are serious about SEO, you need a blog. And if you are serious about blogging, Tonya is the best. You'll see my new website took off after her workshop (screenshot below—the arrow is when I took her course)! The workshop she ran a few weeks ago will be available soon in her Creative SEO membership ($34/month).

I'm currently working on some new SEO packages at a lower price point to help busy website owners keep better track of what they need to focus on. More on that soon. Now on to this month's updates!

Updated Header/Navigation in Squarespace

Squarespace has finally launched their long awaited header/navigation updates. We now have more options to design and customize the header of our websites, including the look of the navigation tabs. The design interface is also more intuitive. Becca at Inside the Square has posted a nice YouTube video that shows you how to use all of the new, and old, features currently available to customize your header. Watch Video ⟶

New Security Features Just Added

Clickjack Protection: This setting protects your site from something called "redress attacks". These are attempts to trick visitors into clicking hidden (scam) links. This feature is now automatically enabled for all sites, but if you want to double check you can find it under Developer tools > Website Protection

Prevent AI scans: This is currently disabled by default, but you can enable it if you like. I've been told by Squarespace that it won't affect SEO. I haven't disabled it yet on my site, but probably will in the future. You can find this by going to Settings > > Website > Crawlers > Artificial Intelligence Crawlers. Be sure to leave the other toggle "Search Engine Crawlers" turned on. You need that to be visible to Google for SEO!

New eCommerce Features

Subscription renewal email notifications: Let your subscribers know that their subscription has renewed by going to Selling Tolls > Customer Notifications > Subscription Orders. These notifications currently come after the renewal, but many people have asked Squarespace to enable this notification before renewals take place. So, keep an eye out for that in the future!

Product Add-On's for eCommerce: Upsell specific products on the product details page. To add this, go to a product and scroll down to Selling Tools and click "Add" under Product Add-ons.

You can also sell "related products" on your products page using the SQSP Themes Related Product Plugin. I use that for my related blog posts too!

New report due for LLC's

I'm still looking into this myself (will keep you posted), but it looks as though most LLC's will need to file a Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) report with the U.S. Dept. of Treasury before the end of the year.
